What to Expect in Secular Counseling

Secular counseling is a type of therapy that does not incorporate any religious or spiritual beliefs. Instead, it focuses on helping you to understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to develop healthy coping mechanisms.

As a secular counselor, I do not bring religion or spirituality into counseling sessions.

I can meet you where you're at on spirituality and religion. Whether these topics have been positive or negative factors in your life, you can feel safe if you want to discuss that here, knowing that I will not push any spiritual or religious approaches to therapy.

In our present society, some people who claim to want religious "freedom" (for themselves but not for others) are getting louder and bolder about this. They seem to be even more outspoken in spreading hate under the guise of religious teaching, as well as passing extremist laws (based upon conservative religious beliefs) to limit some people’s rights.

While people should have the right to practice their religion, they should not be using this to oppress others.

If religious or spiritual practices have had a negative effect on your life, let’s talk about it. You won’t have to worry about offending me, and you won’t feel like you’re being judged.
